- Movement in the earliest vertebrates: evaluating the hydrodynamics and swimming mechanics of Sacabambaspis

- In this project, we aim to explore the locomotion of the earliest vertebrates, via the iconic Ordovician Sacabambaspis. 3D reconstructions will be built digitally based on CT-scans performed at the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle. The models will be used to explore the hydrodynamics of Sacabambaspis- incorporating flow dynamics, thrust generation and stabilizing mechanics - through both computational fluid dynamics and physical flume experiments. Surface textural data acquired though CT-scanning will be incorporated into the models, and potentially investigated in isolation.
