Project title
Sauvegarde des scans 3D "evolution of 3D shape of tetrapods"
Description of the project
In this project, we pioneered a new approach for capturing the evolution of 3D shape and reconstructing its evolution through deep time, applying it to the remarkable diversity of tetrapods (amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals). Rather than using just a handful of coordinates to capture the shape of such a complex structure, we refined methods that can use thousands of points to fully quantify skull shape. Gathering a 3D dataset of over 2500 3D scans from specimens of living and fossil tetraponds, we then analysed how the shape of the skull has evolved over more than 300 million years of evolutionary history.
