- Titre du projet
- Graphite nodules characterisation of the Canyon Diablo meteorite
- Descriptif du projet
- It is a double goal for this project: to broaden the MNHN 3D numerical collection of Meteorites while continuing the effort of characterizing the carbon an nitrogen bearing-phases such as graphite nodules in meteorites iron meteorites. Iron meteorites are composed almost exclusively of metallic iron. The majority of these meteorites sample differentiated asteroid cores. Since the 1950s, much progress has been made on the formation conditions and evolution of iron meteorites [Goldstein 2009]. However, many key questions remain open, such as the role of light elements such as carbon and nitrogen in recording the cooling history and controlling the crystallochemistry of some accessory yet important phases found in iron meteorites. Determining the partitioning of carbon and nitrogen between the different metallic phases but also the nature of the specifically bearing phases (graphite, cohenite, nitrides...) would allow to constrain the thermal history of iron meteorites.
