Intra- and interspecific craniomandibular variation in Pantherinae

Description of the project

The aim of this project is to elucidate intra- and interspecific variation in the skull of Pantherinae. The focus lies on the first lower molar and the ear region, especially the inner ear. In case of the latter, we are also interested about the ontogenetic development. We will use the specimens in this request to increase our sample size for recent inner ears. The bony labyrinth can be used as an ecological and phylogenetic proxy, therefore the results can be used, e.g., for interpretation of fossil specimens.
