O and Ti isotope analyses of chondrules from ordinary chondrites
Descriptif du projet
It has been noted that O and Ti isotopes in chondrites show characteristic isotope ratios that depend on the chondrite type. The O isotope variations are generally attributed to photodissociation and are assumed to be in equilibrium with the gas in the solar nebula during cooling of the chondrules. In contrast, the inhomogeneous distribution of Ti isotopes traces incomplete mixing of solid phases in the accretion disk because of the preservation of nucleosynthetic anomalies. A correlation between Ti, Cr and O isotopes in whole rock chondrites is indicated by Trinquier et al. 2007 and 2009. In this study, we propose to test the origin of this connection. By analyzing both O and Ti isotopes in the same chondrule, we are able to determine whether correlated O and Ti isotope anomalies exist in single chondrules. If so, they likely were inherited from both the gas (O) and the dust phases (Ti) and mirror a specific gas-dust composition in the different regions of the solar nebula. This allows us to gain information about gas-dust separation processes in the solar nebula as well as mixing processes. We also plan to obtain Ti double spike analyses to determine the absolute Ti isotope compositions of chondrules, which allows the determination of the true location of nucleosynthetic anomalies.
