Titre du projet
Trabecular structure of the Tasmanian tiger
Descriptif du projet
The project will attempt to infer the hunting strategy of the recently extinct Tasmanian tiger (Thylacinus cynocephalus) based on the bone-internal structure of the distal humerus. The humerus has been shown to differ between ambush and pursuit predators of carnivores. As part of the current project we already acquired a large comparative dataset of microCT scans of distal humeri. After having established a pattern of bone-internal structure of the distal humerus, we aspire to compare these results to the structure of the distal humerus of the thylacine. In order to do so, we request high resolution microCT scans (resolution should be better than 50 microns voxel size) of two distal humeri of adult specimens of Thylacinus cynocephalus. The scans will be analysed here in Berlin, no training for segmentation software etc. is necessary.
