Functional morphology of the filter system in ducks
Descriptif du projet
The morphology of the osteomuscular system involved in the particle filtration in (dabbling) ducks will be investigated in an evolutionary context. We will study the form-function relationship of the filtering system in a variety of dabbling ducks. For this, we will compare them through a functional morphology approach using CT-scan imaging, 3D modelling and visualisation tools, image analysis software, geometric morphometrics and detailed dissection. This will provide insights into the evolution of different filtering systems with variations in anatomy and working mechanisms while identifying main traits linked to evolutionary history and filtration efficiency and function.
